UCR was formed as a small metal fabrication workshop in WA in the 1970s, to take advantage of the state's developing mineral and energy industries. UCR developed into an engineering construction and maintenance business and built relationships with some of Australia's largest companies. Over the past twenty years UCR has undertaken assignments in every Australian state and for some of Australia's best known natural resources companies. UCR's Maintenance Division, was formed in 1993. UCR was listed in 1994 and acquired Kilpatrick Green Holdings in 1998. In 1999, UCR acquired engineering group Goninan from Howard Smith and also entered into a strategic alliance with GE relating to sale and maintenance for GE locomotives. Activities UCR provides engineering, construction, maintenance, inspection and testing services to projects throughout Australia and NZ. UCR services the mining, mineral processing, oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical, power and power distribution, railway signalling, and water and waste treatment industries. As at 30/6/00, UCR's order book stood at $1.2bn.
